The presence of only luminance moiré can be confirmed by clicking in the “Lightness” channel in the “Channels” palette. If you view the "a" and "b" channels, you should only see areas of a single shade of grey.

Keep the “Lightness” channel selected for the next step. I prefer seeing the composite channel while I work. This can be achieved by clicking on the “eye” next to the top layer in the “Channels” palette. You can also press the tilde key, "~" (Mac or Windows) to make the composite image appear, while still keeping the “Lightness” channel selected.
